Attendance - Every day matters
At Poulner Infant School and Nursery, we want every child to feel happy, settled and ready to learn. Regular attendance is an important part of this.
For young children, coming to school every day is about much more than academic learning. Each day helps children to build friendships, confidence, independence and a sense of belonging. Children learn through carefully planned experiences that build upon one another, so when days are missed, they can also miss important steps in their learning.
Good attendance helps children to:
-
develop secure friendships and relationships with adults;
-
establish positive routines and feel part of their class;
-
build confidence and independence;
-
make consistent progress in their learning;
-
take part in exciting experiences, enrichment and special events; and
-
develop positive habits that will support them throughout their education.
Working Together
We understand that children become unwell and there will be times when absence is unavoidable. If your child is too unwell to attend, they should of course remain at home and recover.
However, wherever possible, we ask families to make school attendance a priority and to avoid unnecessary absence during term time.
If attendance begins to become a concern, our first approach will always be to work with you. We recognise that families can sometimes experience circumstances that make regular attendance more difficult. Please talk to us if you are experiencing challenges – early conversations can often help us to find solutions and identify support.
Building Good Habits from the Beginning
The habits children develop during their early years can have a lasting impact. By establishing regular attendance from Nursery, Reception and throughout Key Stage 1, we are helping children understand that school is somewhere they belong and that their learning matters.
Every school day offers something new – a conversation, a story, a friendship, a discovery, a challenge or a moment of success.
Every day matters. Every moment counts.
Together, we can give every child the best possible opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
